Preparing Responsive Educators Program (PREP) offers a fast-track pathway to teacher certification and, with additional coursework (12-graduate hours), candidates may earn a Master of Arts in Teaching degree. Teacher certification is available in Elementary Education Grades 1-5 (506B), Middle School Education Grades 4-8 (507B), Secondary Education Grades 6-12 (508B), Special Education Mild/Moderate Grades 1-12 (518B).
With MAT PREP programs: (1) applicants must be employed by a school district with the “letter of intent” to employ included with the application materials or at least prior to employment, (2) candidates will begin the program at the first of the summer session and successfully complete 9-hours of graduate coursework prior to their employment; candidates will continue their enrollment during the fall and spring semesters (3-graduate hours, Internship; 3-graduate hours Seminar in Teaching), (3) candidates must present a passing score on the PRAXIS II pedagogy test in order to be eligible for certification, and (4) candidates must be continuously enrolled in the program; the additional 12-hours for the MAT degree may be earned during the second summer, fall, and/or spring semesters. PREP is delivered in a hybrid format, with the first summer courses taught as ‘face-to-face;’ fall and spring courses taught as ‘face-to-face’ and online; and the second summer, fall, and/or spring courses taught as online.
