Master of Arts in Teaching, Secondary Education Grades 6-12 PROFESSIONAL STUDIES Program (508A)

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Secondary School Education is designed for talented professionals from diverse career backgrounds who have non-education baccalaureate degrees and want to earn initial Louisiana teacher certification in Secondary School Content Areas such as Biology Education, Business Education, Chemistry Education, English Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Mathematics Education, Physics Education, Social Studies Education, and Speech Education. Graduates of the Secondary Education Grades 6-12 Programs will meet the requirements for becoming a “highly qualified” educator and a Master’s degree.

The MAT for Secondary Education Grades 6-12 requires 33 hours of graduate coursework, including a one-year Internship in Teaching. Candidates must present a passing score on the PRAXIS II pedagogy test prior to enrollment in the Internship. Courses are offered 100% online. Applicants may begin the program in the summer, fall, or spring semester.
